CTER’s student model is built around supervised learning, real documentation, field safety, data quality, explanation, and progressively earned responsibility.

Launch status

Current program: one student researcher.

CTER is in its initial research season with Luke Futch as the current Student Researcher. The first priority is proving the protocol, governance, data system, and supervision model before opening a paid cohort.

Not currently open enrollment: CTER is not presently advertising tuition-based seats or promising academic credit. A future student program can be opened only after supervision, safety, insurance, participation terms, pricing, and legal/administrative requirements are ready.

What a future CTER cohort could include

Scientific method and field safety.
Environmental monitoring and non-invasive observation.
Calibration, metadata, units, spreadsheets, and CSV discipline.
Data visualization and introductory statistical reasoning.
GIS, sensors, dashboards, and conservation technology where appropriate.
Research notebooks, methods, reports, posters, and presentations.
Peer roles and supervised team procedures.

Program philosophy

Students do the work they can actually defend.

Competence before title

Students are described by the role they can perform, not by a title designed to impress.

Supervision before independence

Adults retain legal, financial, transportation, access, safety, and contracting responsibility until an older participant is legitimately qualified to assume a role.

Evidence before conclusion

Students learn to explain uncertainty, distinguish association from causation, and say when a dataset cannot answer the question.

What CTER is not

Not an accredited school or degree program.
Not a shortcut to a scientific title.
Not automatic school credit or guaranteed fair/symposium acceptance.
Not permission to handle wildlife or conduct regulated field activities.
Not an internship with any external institution unless a specific relationship is established.

Interested in a later student cohort?

Families, homeschool groups, educators, and youth programs can register interest now. CTER can use that demand to design a small, safe pilot rather than over-enroll the first season.
